Planning the Perfect Birthday Party For Your Kids

Planning a birthday party can be nerve wracking.  There’s no doubt that dealing with all of the various details can get frustrating, and expensive.  So how do you create the perfect party environment while sticking to your budget?   With organization and patience, you can plan a fun-filled party afternoon.

Planning the Basics

The first step in creating your birthday bash is generating some ideas.  You’ll want your birthday boy or girl to help you with some of the details, such as:

  • Where will your party be located?  If your house is too small, you might want to consider having the party at another venue.  Depending on your child’s personality, you can have your party at the local bowling alley, pizza parlor, or a favorite park.  If planning your party outdoors, make sure you have an alternate plan in case of rain.
  • What is your budget?  A budget is an important detail that gives you an idea of how much money you have to work with.  There are many fun and affordable party options available.  If you’re short on cash, having the party at home will save you money.
  • How many guests are invited?  The answer to this may determine where you will have your party, as well as your budget.
  • What is your theme?  Choosing a theme to your child’s birthday celebration can add some character to your decorations and food.  Some popular themes include mystery theater, under the sea, or princess party.

Getting Prepared

Now that you have your initial plans in order, you need to get everything ready for the special day.

  • Book the venue or entertainment.  If you are having your party at a facility, call to make sure that it is available.  Be sure to reserve your entertainment early to be sure that they are available on your party day.
  • Send invitations.  Mail your invitations about a week prior to the big day.  Try not to have your child give out invitations at school unless they are inviting their entire class.  Don’t forget to leave an RSVP number so you can have an approximate count of how many children are coming.
  • Order the cake.  Be sure to order your cake, giving the bakery plenty of time to create the perfect birthday cake.
  • Plan activities.  Short games are best in order to keep everyone’s attention.  Have a few extra games planned in case one doesn’t work out, or you are left with extra time.
  • Ask for help.  Having several adults present is a great idea, especially if you have a lot of children at the party.  Ask some friends, neighbors, or moms to help supervise the party.

Party Day

As the exciting day arrives, here are some tips to make sure that you are fully prepared.

  • Do your errands early.  Pick up your cake, party supplies and other necessities early, giving you plenty of time to organize everything.
  • Be prepared for early comers.  Have everything ready to go a half hour in advance.  If you have early arrivals, you won’t be running around trying to set up the party.
  • Be flexible.  Don’t worry if everything doesn’t go exactly as planned.  Allow for mishaps and roll with the punches.

Birthday parties are a great chance for everyone to get together and celebrate life.  From the first birthday party until today, you can make each birthday experience special for your child.
