As we age, we face many health conditions. Even from middle age, we start to slow down and feel the effects of behavior that didn’t touch us before. Getting out of a chair takes longer, and hangovers last for days! But, one thing you might not have considered is the effect of aging on your muscles and bones. Muscles weaken and waste as you grow older and bones become frail and unhealthy. The good news is, the sooner you take steps to stop these problems, the better. In fact, you could stay as strong as you ever were if you do things right!

KNOW WHAT YOU NEED

You can’t ensure you’re doing everything to stay strong if you don’t know what you need! For the most part, what you need is waiting in the right foods. Do a little research into which foods you should be eating. We all know that calcium is good for bones, but do you know where to get it? Dairy and leafy greens are the most obvious options. But, there are plenty other ways you can get the right amount. If you’re worried about not getting enough, turn to natural supplements such as AlgaeCal. That way, you can assure you’re doing everything possible. You should also aim to eat foods that improve your muscle growth. Protein is fantastic for helping muscles grow at a faster rate. You can also turn to foods such as brown rice, oranges, and milk! If you’re struggling to make the right changes, a visit to your doctor could confirm what you need to be doing.

…AND WHAT YOU DON’T

Doctors are always telling you to stop smoking and drinking for the sake of your health. It makes sense, especially as you grow older. There’s so much focus on the big diseases that few people realize the effect theses habits have on bones and muscles. Alcohol is known to weaken muscles and cause them to waste. Why? Because it removes essential nutrients from your body. Smoking does the same. It’s no good giving yourself what you need if you’re going to take it away again with your addictions.

KNOW YOUR FAMILY HISTORY

If you’re unconvinced you need to make a change, it might be worth looking into your family history. Find out whether you have any diseases such as osteoporosis or sarcopenia in your family’s past. Even if you were never aware, it’s likely that the issues are hiding somewhere in your history! Knowing that should give you the wake-up call you need to make changes now.

THE RIGHT EXERCISE

The right exercise i ass important as the right foods. Where muscle mass is concerned, if you don’t use it, you lose it. As you get older, your doctor will urge you into physical exercise. You should listen! You don’t need to go straight into heavy weightlifting here. A brisk walk that uses all your muscles, or a bike ride, is all it takes to keep things the way they should be!
