2. Find the right site for you

There’s a whole range of dating sites available, which cater to people’s different needs and interests. This could include people looking for purely physical interaction, or people in search of companionship. The most popular type is for people searching for compatible singles who share their interests, such as www.eharmony.com.au.

3. Take it at your own pace

Online dating allows you to take the dating process at a speed you feel comfortable with. So take it slow and enjoy the ride.

4. Focus on the positives

When writing your profile, be sure to avoid negative anecdotes, such as bad relationship experiences or heartbreak. Instead, focus on the things that make you happy. This will help ensure you find the best person to share them with.

5. Choose a current picture

Everyone wants to find a picture that shows off their best angle. However, if the photo is outdated then the only person you’re fooling in the long run is yourself.

6. Don’t accessorise

Think about what you choose to include in your display picture, as it’s your only chance to make a good first impression. Avoid wearing sunglasses, and be careful not to include any embarrassing items in the background.

7. Embrace social media
Thanks to social media, today there are plenty of easy ways to interact with people online. Online dating sites also have social media pages, such as eHarmony AU Facebook, which offers you another excellent place to get to know compatible singles better.

8. Use the communication techniques available to you

Different social media sites offer different methods of breaking the ice. Make the most of these as they are designed to keep the online dating experience as user friendly as possible.

9. Be safe online

Online dating is a safe process, but there are some small adjustments you can make to ensure it’s as risk free as possible. Never give out sensitive information to someone online, such as your bank details, home address or mobile phone number. Always trust your gut instinct and, if a site doesn’t feel reputable, opt for a more reliable choice.

Be sure to also find a site that respects and caters for the sort of person you’re trying to find. eHarmony specialises in finding love for all sorts of personalities and lifestyles, whether you’re looking for Christian singles, Asian singles or sporty singles.

10. Be safe in person

If you’ve decided it’s time to take the dating process out of the virtual world and into reality, there are a few simple safety precautions you should take. Always meet for the first time in a familiar location, avoid drinking too much and be sure to tell a friend or family member where you’re going and when you get home safely.
