How to Live the Frugal Life- With a Smile

If somebody has to make it mandatory to live a frugal life, that will have to be the single mom- or dad.  It’s an unwritten rule for us single parents to pinch every penny just to avoid making a hole in our non-Gucci wallets.  Much to our chagrin, we’d have to give up that tall, aromatic cup of latte for 500 grams of infant formula.  With all the financial sacrifices we have to make, it’s comforting to know that there are less excruciating ways to save on cash.

Never underestimate the power of coupons.  This is an answered prayer for many a single (and not single) mom and dad.  These have become tickets to countless discounts at our favorite stores- both online and offline.  You can find free coupons for almost anything from school bags for your little ones to a 4-course meal at a fine dining restaurant.  Some online coupons even give you the benefit of having your purchases delivered to your doorstep, thus saving you gas money.

There are a lot of websites which serve as portals to a whole world of coupons for your various shopping needs.  One such site is which offers advice and tips on how and where to find the best coupon codes for anything you may need.  The site has links to printable coupons from such commercial bigwigs like Amazon, Target and Sears.

If a coupon allows you to buy a set of 12 toothbrushes at a discount, you can try splitting the cost with a few of your friends.  You get to buy your necessities at rock bottom prices and put a healthy smile on your friends’ and their family’s faces- literally!

With all those coupons right at your fingertips, it’s only too tempting to print them all and use them like they were play money.  But as with anything, we should exercise some degree of restraint.  Don’t buy on impulse simply because you have a discounted coupon for it.

Living the frugal life can still mean living a pepperrific life.  With the proper mindset and discipline, giving up on some of life’s luxuries does not necessarily have to feel as if you’re serving a life sentence for a crime you didn’t commit.  Prioritize the things you have to spend on, and when you realize that you have a little extra left, you can finally indulge in that tempting cup of latte.
